Salary

£1,200 per week (£1,050 per week for rehearsals)

Show schedule

Performances are 6 days per week, typically Tuesday – Sunday. The performance schedule during previews varies and shall be confirmed at point of contract.

The role requires a calm, methodical and safety-led practitioner with experience operating technically complex stage systems in a live performance environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operating and monitoring performer flying, travelator and other allocated moving stage systems in rehearsals, technical rehearsals and performances;
  • Supporting the programming, testing and execution of cues in line with the artistic requirements and technical direction of the production;
  • Carrying out daily checks and routine maintenance on allocated technical stage equipment to ensure equipment is safe and in working order for each performance;
  • Fault finding and resolving first-line issues during pre-show checks, rehearsals and performances, and reporting faults or damage promptly to the Production Manager, Stage Manager and relevant suppliers;
  • Working with the Production Manager, Stage Manager and relevant suppliers on the preparation, maintenance and safe operation of performer flying, travelator and associated systems;
  • Ensuring all relevant paperwork, checklists and show documentation for allocated technical stage elements is kept up to date and accurate;
  • Supporting fit-up, technical rehearsals, maintenance calls and get-out as required;
  • Working responsibly at height and with moving equipment, in line with risk assessments, method statements, training and show procedures;
  • Communicating clearly with Stage Management, technical departments, cast and creative team to support the smooth and safe running of the production;
  • Creating and encouraging a supportive and positive backstage environment for the cast and crew;
  • Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Technical Stage Supervisor based on industry norms and practice.

Person Specification

  • Demonstrable professional experience operating and maintaining technically complex stage systems in a live performance environment;
  • Experience of performer flying, automation, travelator, revolve, winch or other moving scenic/stage systems is highly desirable;
  • Excellent technical skills and a proven track record of dealing with complex technical issues calmly and safely;
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and adapt work in accordance with performance requirements;
  • Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation including LOLER, risk assessments and working at height;
  • A calm, methodical and practical approach to troubleshooting;
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments;
  • Flexible and self-motivated, with the ability to support colleagues and form excellent working relationships;
  • Experience working on a new production or technically complex West End production;
  • Awareness of current SOLT/BECTU union agreements.
